LARVATRIM® – Cyromazine Feed Additive (VET)
An insect growth regulator (IGR) used in poultry feed to control fly larvae in manure.
LARVATRIM® effectively breaks the fly life cycle by preventing maggots from developing into adult flies. Added to poultry feed, it passes into the manure, disrupting chitin synthesis in larvae (house flies, soldier flies) without harming beneficial insects, and has minimal impact on birds, eggs, or meat. It is a key component of integrated fly management.
Composition
- Cyromazine – 1%
- Inert Ingredients – 99%
Mode of Action
- Target: Disrupts chitin metabolism in fly larvae.
- Result: Prevents larvae from molting and developing into pupae, stopping them from becoming adult flies.
Key Features & Benefits
- Selective Control: Targets fly larvae while leaving beneficial mites and beetles unharmed.
- Broad Spectrum (for flies): Effective against house flies (Musca domestica), lesser house flies (Fannia canicularis), false stable flies (Muscina stabulans), and soldier flies (Hermetia illucens).
- Easy Application: Mixed into poultry feed; no direct spraying needed.
- Minimal Impact on Birds: No adverse effects on fertility, egg production, or meat quality when used as directed.
- Short/Zero Withdrawal: Minimal withholding periods for meat and eggs.
Usage
Application: Administered as a premix blended into normal poultry feed.
Direction For Use
- Mix 500 g of LARVATRIM® per tonne of feed when flies become active.
- Continue for 4 – 6 weeks until the fly population is under control.
- Then discontinue LARVATRIM® and repeat when flies reestablish themselves.
